Maison Sérilence is a village house located in the old town of Aups, just outside all the activities of the city center. It is situated at the end of one of the narrow medieval streets, with one of its walls even being part of the ancient city walls.

The house is surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty and water activities in the immediate vicinity.

The abandoned and ruined house has been transformed into a new bright, modern holiday home equipped with all comforts. In the streets in front of the house, Roman remains are still visible.

Aups is the center of the "Upper Var," with a rich history and a typical example of an old Provencal village.

It is also a renowned truffle village.

Activities & Events in and around Aups

Aups caresses all senses

Aups has much to offer, something for everyone

Facilities of Aups

Aups is a typical Provençal village, located in the

inspiring nature of the Verdon, and has an

important regional function. It has around 2250

inhabitants and offers a number of important

facilities to ensure a smooth holiday. These include

a medical centre, a very extensive and active tourist

office, plus a choice of cosy and gourmet restaurants,

cafes, hairdressers and a nail salon. There are three bakeries and one butcher/traiteur and wine shop that also sells wonderful olive oil a small supermarket in the heart of the village and a little further on an Intermarché Super Market with a large selection and a petrol station. In addition, there is a market with fresh produce two mornings a week, Wednesday and Saturday.

Truffles

Aups is known as the truffle village of Provence. Growing truffles is delicate, finding them equally so. Traditionally, truffles were sought with pigs, but nowadays they are increasingly replaced by dogs. Because once a pig has found a truffle, it runs the risk of running off with this delicacy, while a dog looks for the truffles for its owner.

In the winter months, you will find truffles on the menu everywhere in Aups. The famous truffle markets in the months of November to March, are also crowded and a draw for many. This delicacy, also called the black diamond, is appreciated by many chefs; application and preparation has often been passed down from generation to generation in family recipes. Finding it is also craftsmanship, see L'histoire de la Truffe

Verdon

Aups, also called Gateway to the Verdon, is 15 minutes from Lac Saint Croix, this sky-blue reservoir that collects the water from the Gorge du Verdon, France's largest canyon. The water rises from the Alpes in the Haute Provence.

Previously, this valley was inhabited and the village of les Salles-sur-Verdon was rebuild 400 meters further. The valley was flooded in the '70 for the construction of a reservoir, supplying electricity to the region. The plains around Lac Saint Croix are known for lavender cultivation, see this link Le terroir lavande, bee farms, olive groves and wineries.
